Job summary

ALTEN in Gloucester seeks a Junior Mechanical Design Engineer to support concessions and non-conformance activities on an aerospace programme. The role suits a Graduate or Junior Engineer aiming to gain specialist experience in aerospace design, manufacturing and product integrity.

You will assess manufacturing deviations and non-conforming components to decide if parts can be accepted, reworked or require further engineering action, with close collaboration across Engineering teams.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Engineering or equivalent military experience.

Responsibilities

• Review and assess engineering concessions and non-conformances affecting aerospace mechanical and structural components.
• Investigate dimensional deviations, material defects and manufacturing discrepancies.
• Support engineering decisions and technical dispositions, including use-as-is, rework, repair or rejection/scrap.
• Review drawings, tolerances, specifications and manufacturing information to understand impact of non-conformances.
• Collaborate with Stress, Materials, Design, Manufacturing and Quality engineers to determine acceptability of deviations.
• Prepare engineering justifications, concession reports, deviation requests and non-conformance documentation.
• Ensure design intent, structural integrity and safety in accordance with aerospace requirements.
• Support root-cause analysis for recurring manufacturing or product issues.
• Contribute to corrective actions including design changes and process improvements.
• Provide engineering support during implementation of approved concessions.
• Maintain records and traceability of concessions in PLM/configuration systems.
• Communicate with internal stakeholders, suppliers and customers to resolve technical queries.
