Job summary

BMC Recruitment Group is representing an established North East accountancy practice seeking a Junior Accountant or Accounts Assistant in South Tyneside. This full-time, permanent role offers training and development in a supportive, client-focused environment.

You will gain hands-on experience in bookkeeping, accounts preparation, VAT and payroll tasks, with clear opportunities for career progression within the practice.

Qualifications

• Previous experience in an accounts or bookkeeping role.
• Experience in an accountancy practice is advantageous.
• Good understanding of basic accounting principles.
• Confident using Microsoft Excel.
• Experience with accounting software would be advantageous.
• Strong attention to detail and a methodical approach to work.
• Good communication and organisational skills.
• Willingness to learn and develop within the role.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Responsibilities

• Assist with day-to-day bookkeeping for a range of clients.
• Process purchase and sales invoices, payments, receipts and other financial transactions.
• Complete bank reconciliations and maintain accurate financial records.
• Assist with the preparation of accounts and financial reports.
• Support with the preparation of VAT returns and other basic tax-related work.
• Assist with payroll processing and associated administration.
• Liaise with clients to obtain information and resolve routine queries.
• Maintain accurate and up-to-date accounting records using relevant software.
• Provide general support to the wider accounts team as required.
• Develop your knowledge of accounting procedures, legislation and best practice.
