Job summary

Reed is recruiting a Junior Accountant for an independent Hertford accountancy practice. You will work alongside senior accountants to support bookkeeping, VAT, payroll and year-end processes.

The role offers exposure across a diverse client base and opportunities to develop through modern software such as Xero, Sage and QuickBooks within a supportive team.

Qualifications

• AAT-qualified, AAT studier or early ACCA/ACA student looking to broaden experience across bookkeeping, VAT, payroll and accounts preparation.
• Experience in a UK accountancy practice is preferred and beneficial.

Responsibilities

• Assist with bookkeeping and client record processing.
• Handle VAT returns and MTD submissions.
• Assist with year-end accounts preparation and journal postings.
• Support payroll when required and liaise with clients to resolve queries.

Junior Accountant Independent Accountancy Practice

Location: Hertford, Hertfordshire
Job Type: Permanent, Full-Time

An established independent accountancy practice in Hertford is looking to recruit a Junior Accountant to join its friendly and supportive team.

This is an excellent opportunity for an AAT-qualified, AAT studier or early-stage ACCA/ACA student looking to broaden their experience across bookkeeping, VAT, payroll and accounts preparation whilst working closely with experienced Partners.

The firm supports a diverse client portfolio ranging from owner-managed businesses through to larger groups across sectors including manufacturing, consultancy, IT and marketing.

The Role

Working alongside senior accountants and Partners, you will assist with:

• Bookkeeping and client record processing
• VAT returns and MTD submissions
• Bank reconciliations and journal postings
• Assisting with year-end accounts preparation
• Processing records through Xero, Sage and QuickBooks
• Supporting payroll when required
• Liaising with clients and resolving queries
• Managing workload to meet client deadlines

The Ideal Candidate

We are keen to hear from candidates who have:

• Previous experience within a UK accountancy practice
• Bookkeeping and VAT return experience
• Knowledge of Xero, Sage or QuickBooks
• Strong attention to detail
• Excellent communication skills
• A positive and proactive attitude
