Job summary

Nottingham City Council is seeking an experienced Joiner to contribute to good quality rented housing and tenant satisfaction. You will handle joinery work across roofs, stairs, flooring, kitchens and more, while maintaining safety and quality in the housing stock.

The ideal candidate will have NVQ3 or C&G Advanced Craft, a full UK driving licence, and strong customer communication skills. Closing date 27 September 2026, interviews w/c 12 October 2026.

Qualifications

  • Qualified joiner to NVQ3 or C&G Advanced Craft.
  • Full and valid UK driving licence.
  • Experience communicating with customers with varying needs.
  • Ability to investigate faults and implement lasting solutions.

Responsibilities

  • Carry out joinery and carpentry work including roof structures, stairs, balustrades and flooring.
  • Maintain property structures to ensure appearance, stability and safety.
  • Complete related tasks such as brickwork or plaster patching to finish repairs in one visit.
  • Work on doors and window fitting projects, soffit, fascia and guttering as required.

Role: Joiner

Contract Type: Permanent

Working Hours: 37 hours per week - You will be required to work these hours in accordance with the needs and requirements of the service, between the hours of 6am and 8pm Monday to Friday

Worker Type: Off-site worker

Salary: Grade H – starting salary is £37,563 per annum (level 1), rising to £40,444 per annum (level 4)

About the Role

As an experienced Joiner, you will contribute to the provision of good quality rented housing, and the achievement of high levels of tenant satisfaction, improving the landlord and tenant relationships, and protecting health and safety.

You will be responsible for any joinery or carpentry item including but not limited to; roof structures, staircases, walkways and balustrades, banisters, skirtings, architraves, handrails, flooring, kitchen units, worktops, aqua boarding, glazing, fencing and gates where it is NCC Housing’s responsibility. We will look to you to maintain the structure of the property include all those elements which give a dwelling its essential appearance, stability and shape, and those that provide protection from the climate.

We will also expect you to be able to complete relevant associated work for example small elements of bricklaying or plaster patching to facilitate completion of repairs in one visit.

We are currently looking for Joiners with experience of working on doors and window fitting projects/work streams, as well as individuals with experience of soffit, fascia and guttering workstreams.

About You

The ideal candidate will have:

  1. Experience of working in all aspects of joinery and carpentry work, including experience of working on doors and window fitting projects/workstreams, or soffit, fascia and guttering workstreams.
  2. Qualified, certified & trained Joiner to NVQ3 or C&G Advance Craft.
  3. Full and valid, UK driving licence.
  4. Experience of communicating with customers with differing needs.
  5. Experience of carrying out investigations and tests to identify faults and the root cause of issues and implement lasting solutions.
  6. A well organised and a methodical approach to completing tasks and prioritisation skills.
