Job description

Contract: Temporary on-going January - May 2026 (potential of extending for the right candidate!)

Pay Rate: £22.00 per hour paid weekly

Hours: FULL TIME Monday - Thursday 08:30-16:45, Friday - 08:30-16:30

Blue Arrow are working in partnership with an award winning further education provider, who have various Joiner and Maintenance opportunities available. They are currently looking for multiple joiners to undertake repair works & fitting to fire doors on site, along with other maintenance jobs to support their education facility. You will be helping and supporting the site to improve their facilities, along with working closely with other trades within the Campus to coordinate the necessary works to be carried out.

Main duties and responsibilities
  • Carrying out a full range of repairs, maintenance, and planned improvement duties with the emphasis on multi skilled works across the University's estate.
  • Changing and fitting door hinges
  • Intumescent strips
  • Adjusting gaps in doors to ensure sealed correctly in case of a fire.
  • Installing drop down seals
  • Replacing handles
  • Carpentry and joinery work
  • Locksmith Work
  • Always Work within the relevant Health and Safety legislation and guidelines when carrying out work, including the preparation of work areas and the use of Personal Protective Equipment
  • Always ensure the safe use and storage of tools and equipment
  • Carry out Risk Assessments as required, including completing permits for work and checking relevant registers i.e., Asbestos
  • Liaise with the stores department to ensure the correct materials and equipment are available
  • Respond to calls for urgent work, which may occur outside normal working hours, and carrying out planned work both inside and outside normal working hours, utilising University vehicles and equipment as necessary
  • Carry out works as required and directed by the University, which may include working in confined spaces or at height, or in noisy or adverse weather conditions
  • Working to provide the highest quality customer service within well-established Key Performance Indicators.
  • Assist with the maintenance of university vehicles used for the purpose of carrying out works
  • Provide flexibility within working practices and undertake any task that is within the individual's competence and where it is practical and economic to do so.
  • Generally assisting colleagues and undertaking cleaning and labouring duties.
  • Erection of access equipment, use of mobile access platforms, working at heights

  • Are hardworking, team players and not fazed by working outdoors
  • Have access to own tools
  • Able to communicate effectively and follow directions
  • Are punctual and reliable - turn up for work every day, on time throughout their assignment
  • Are physically able to carry out physical work
  • Adaptable to pick up a variety of tasks as instructed by management
Requirements
  • Safety boots & PPE
  • A woodwork machinery qualification according to PUWER
  • Experience in first and second fix joinery
  • Experience of bench machinery
  • Experience of reading construction drawings
  • Full experience of working as a Joiner.
  • Ability to work along when required
  • Participate in a 24/7 emergency \"call out\" service on a 52 week rota system, including fault finding, \"making safe\", and carrying out repairs as required
