Job summary

The Manchester College is seeking a dedicated Job Coach to support learners with diverse needs, helping them develop employability skills in classrooms and workplaces.

You will conduct one-to-one coaching, liaise with employers, and assist learners in overcoming barriers to employment. This is a permanent full-time role (35 hours per week) term-time over 39 weeks, based at Salford Quays with travel to local placements.

Qualifications

  • Level 2 English and Maths qualifications required.
  • Experience of working with young people and adults with SEND in education.
  • Ability to use IT systems, including Microsoft Office.
  • Empathy and strong communication with leaners, families and professionals.

Responsibilities

  • Provide one-to-one coaching to learners to develop employability skills.
  • Liaise with employers to arrange work placements and visits.
  • Support learners in overcoming barriers to work and sustaining progress.
  • Travel between Salford Quays sites and nearby placements.

Join our dedicated Foundation Learning and Student Support team as a Job Coach and make a real difference in students’ futures. We’re looking for an enthusiastic, patient, and proactive individual to support learners with diverse needs in developing their employability skills. You’ll work closely with students in classroom and workplace settings, building confidence and preparing them for successful, sustainable employment. Your role will include one-to-one coaching, liaising with employers, and helping students overcome barriers to work. Experience of working with young people with additional learning needs is desirable, along with excellent communication and organisational skills. If you are passionate about empowering learners and helping them achieve their goals, we’d love to hear from you.

We have an exciting opportunity to join our Foundation Learning and Student Support Department as a Job Coach on a permanent, full-time (35 hours per week), term-time only basis (over 39 weeks).

The role is based at Salford Quays and will involve travel between work experience placements in the vicinity of here.

Skills, Qualifications and Experience

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • Minimum of a Level 2 support qualification in a specialist area or equivalent experience or willingness to obtain a Level 2 support qualification in a specialist area.
  • Minimum of a Level 2 qualification in English and Maths.
  • Experience of working with young people and adults with a SEND in an education environment.
  • Experience and knowledge, empathy and understanding of the specific issues relating to the education of young people and adults with a SEND.
  • Experienced and competent in the use of IT systems, such as Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Knowledge of specific assistive technology or specialist software in supporting learners with a SEND.
  • Excellent communication skills in English, both spoken and written.
  • A deep level of empathy, creating an environment where learners feel thoroughly understood and supported.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with learners to ascertain their needs and ambitions, relay information and provide constructive feedback.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to collaborate effectively with parents, carers, teachers, employers, and other educational professionals.
  • Ability to analyse and evaluate performance (their own and that of their learners) to gauge and direct progress.
  • Adaptability and the willingness to implement a variety of strategies and methodologies tailored to each learner’s goals and adjust techniques and strategies dynamically to address the evolving challenges and aspirations of each learner.
  • Creativity to develop innovative and engaging strategies to motivate all learners.
  • Ability to evaluate the effectiveness of delivered support for individual learners.
  • Ability to self-evaluate and make necessary adaptations to own practice and make suggestions to others.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team and support a culture of teamwork within a multi-disciplinary environment.
