Job summary

Jobtailor in London is seeking a senior backend engineer to lead the design and development of scalable cloud-native systems using Java and Kotlin. You will shape technical direction, drive delivery of complex features, and coach engineers across tribes and squads.

You should have deep JVM expertise, strong experience with REST APIs, event-driven messaging, AWS, and multi-cloud environments, and a track record delivering mission-critical platforms in banking/payments.

Qualifications

• Strong backend development experience using Java and Kotlin.
• Deep expertise in the JVM ecosystem.
• Experience with open-source frameworks, REST APIs, event-driven messaging, and databases.
• Proven experience building cloud-native applications, microservices, distributed architectures, and customer-facing platforms.
• Experience using AWS and multi-cloud environments.
• Experience with mission-critical systems, ideally in banking, payments, or card issuing.
• Expertise in testing, CI/CD pipelines, and modern software delivery automation.
• Ability to operate effectively in ambiguous, rapidly changing environments.
• Demonstrated ability to coach and develop engineers and influence engineering direction beyond immediate team boundaries.
• Ability to collaborate across tribes and squads.
• Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills across business and engineering functions.
