Job summary

Carbon60 is seeking a Software Engineer (Java) to join the Geospatial & Cloud Solutions team. The role is based in North East England with a hybrid working model, approximately three days on-site and two days remote.

You will work across the full software development lifecycle in an Agile Scrum environment, developing Java applications, designing cloud-native services, and contributing to testing, reviews, and documentation. SC clearance may be required for project eligibility.

Qualifications

• Experience developing Java-based geospatial or mapping software.
• Strong background in cloud-native architectures and services.
• Proficient in unit testing and automated test methodologies.
• Familiarity with DevSecOps practices and tooling.
• Experience with Kubernetes and/or OpenShift.

Responsibilities

• Develop high-quality, maintainable, and scalable Java-based applications.
• Design and implement cloud-native services and software components.
• Contribute to the full software development lifecycle from requirements and design through deployment and support.
• Create reusable software patterns to improve development efficiency.
• Develop and maintain unit and automated tests to ensure software quality.
• Participate in code reviews and design reviews, ensuring secure coding standards and best practices.
• Produce clear technical documentation and share knowledge across the team.
• Collaborate within an Agile Scrum environment with sprint ceremonies and milestones.
• Work with engineers, testers, and stakeholders to deliver sprint commitments.

We are supporting a leading technology and engineering organisation seeking an experienced

Software Engineer (Java) to join a collaborative Agile development team delivering advanced geospatial and cloud-based software solutions.

This is an opportunity to work on cutting-edge products within a modern cloud environment, contributing across the full software development lifecycle from design and development through to testing, deployment, and ongoing enhancement. The team operates within an Agile Scrum framework and values innovation, quality, and continuous improvement.

The role follows a hybrid working model, with approximately three days per week onsite and two days working remotely.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop high-quality, maintainable, and scalable Java-based applications.
• Design and implement cloud-native services and software components.
• Contribute to the full software development lifecycle, from requirements and design through to deployment and support.
• Create reusable software patterns and solutions to improve development efficiency and team productivity.
• Develop and maintain unit and automated tests to ensure software quality.
• Participate in code reviews and design reviews, ensuring adherence to coding standards, security requirements, and best practices.
• Produce clear technical documentation and share knowledge across the development team.
• Collaborate within an Agile Scrum environment, contributing to sprint planning, estimation, daily stand-ups, and retrospectives.
• Work closely with engineers, testers, and stakeholders to deliver sprint commitments and project milestones.
• Strong commercial experience with
• Experience building and deploying

cloud-based applications and services.

• Proven capability in

unit testing and automated testing methodologies.

• Experience working within
• Understanding of software engineering best practices, including code quality, scalability, and maintainability.
• Knowledge of

DevSecOps practices and associatedtoolsets such as:

• Tekton
• ArgoCD
• SonarQube
• Experience with

Kubernetes and/or

Red OpenShift.

• Exposure to the

Quarkus framework.

Angular.

• Experience working on geospatial or mapping-related software products.
