A leading company in the mechanical applications sector is seeking an IT Technician to join their team in Manchester. This role involves supporting and maintaining the digital infrastructure, providing helpdesk support, and managing various IT projects. Salary = £24,000 – £28,000 per annum dependent on experience (36 hrs per week Mon-Fri)

Based in Manchester we’re looking for an IT Technician to join our collaborative and thriving environment. This role offers an exciting opportunity to work in a fast-evolving industry and gain hands-on experience in a variety of IT disciplines, the role will maintain and support EDM’s digital infrastructure, ensuring reliable and secure IT services for both internal and off site teams including desktop support, troubleshooting, networking, and IT system structure management
From you
Duties and Responsibilities
– Support manufacturing testing for new custom systems, ensuring smooth integration with existing systems.
– Act as internal Helpdesk support, troubleshooting technical issues across teams.
– Provide internal IT support for Windows clients, VoIP systems, and general office IT infrastructure.
– Administer in-house servers, networking, and security, including Linux-based environments.
– Manage Linux (Debian) servers, handling package management, Apache, DNS, DHCP, Asterisk, and OpenVPN configurations.
– Administer PostgreSQL databases.
– Create and maintain documentation regarding internal IT processes and customer systems.
– Provide DevOps support, automating infrastructure deployments and CI/CD workflows.
– Maintain and upgrade desktops, laptops, mobiles, and tablets as per IT guidelines.
– Set up and maintain printers, hotspot routers, access points, and other IT devices.
– Maintain the IT equipment inventory records.
– Assist with IT projects
– Monitor the network and help with system audits, data input, reporting, documenting, and scheduled security checks.
– Ensure the business remains compliant with Cyber Essentials Plus.
Key Requirements
– Ideally have a degree in IT
– Ideally hold CompTIA A+, Network+, or be a Microsoft Certified Professional (MCP)
– Previous experience of 1-2 years minimum working in IT Support.
– Previous experience within a desktop support or systems administrator environment.
– Familiarity and experience with Cyber essentials requirements along with basic security principles and tools.
– Familiarity with basic networking concepts (TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VPNs)
– Basic experience with server management (Windows Server, Active Directory and Virtualization) is a plus.
– Knowledge of systems and IT hardware (PC’s, Printers, Scanners) and software.
– Strong knowledge of Windows OS (Windows 10/11), Microsoft Office 365 common desktop applications.
– Ability to multitask and prioritise in a fast-paced environment.
– A desire to learn and grow in areas like server administration, networking and IT infrastructure.
– A flexible individual, hours may include early mornings, weekends and sometimes as short notice.
– Ability to achieve UK security clearance essential.
