Job summary

Newcastle and Stafford Colleges Group (NSCG) is seeking an IT Technician to deliver ICT support across five sites. The role focuses on maintaining hardware/software systems and ensuring IT and telephony equipment meet NSCG requirements.

The successful candidate will have strong communication skills, a customer service focus, and hands-on experience with Windows Server environments, hardware repairs, and CCTV/telephony systems. Access to transport for site visits is required.

Responsibilities

• Provide telephone and email IT support to staff and students.
• Maintain and operate the College’s computer networks (Windows and Apple macOS).
• Carry out physical repairs to laptops and desktop PCs.
• Perform software rebuilds, audits, and distribute IT equipment to end users.
• Test new software and service packs for compatibility and stability before deployment.
• Maintain Mitel VOIP telephony systems and report deviations from the norm.
• Configure and maintain CCTV systems across sites.
• Install and configure new equipment including cabling and peripherals.
• Work evenings/weekends for events such as open evenings and IT exams when required.

Newcastle and Stafford Colleges Group (NSCG) is one of the very best colleges in the country. The group is currently home to a population of over 6,500 full-time students with around 2000 adult learners and students on higher education programmes. We have over 1,500 apprentices where we work with over 850 individual employers. Our Sixth Form provision has a reputation for high academic achievement and excellence.

We are looking for an IT Technician to join our pro-active and dynamic IT Services team. The successful candidate will be required to deliver ICT support for the 5 sites that make up the NSCG group. Ensuring that all IT hardware and software systems are maintained in functional order and that IT and telephony equipment is configured to the College Group requirements.

The post holder will also have excellent communication skills and a strong customer service focus.

You will need access to your own suitable transport to be able to visit sites across the Staffordshire region.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

• To provide telephone and electronic helpdesk IT Support to Staff and Students.
• To assist with the day-to-day operation and maintenance of the College’s computer based networks, this includes both Windows and Apple Mac operating systems.
• To undertake physical repairs to laptops and desktop PCs.
• To software rebuild, audit and distribute IT equipment to end users.
• To assist in the testing of new software packages and services packs to ensure full system compatibility and stability before deployment.
• To maintain the Mitel VOIP telephony systems and report on deviations from the norm.
• To configure and maintain the various CCTV systems used across the group.
• To install and configure new equipment, including associated cabling and other peripheral works.
• To work evenings and weekends to cover special events such as open evenings and IT exams, when required. Prior notice will be given.

Required Skills and Experience:
