Job summary
Viridien is seeking a highly motivated graduate to join our UK Data Centre team, focusing on development, implementation and support of HPC hardware and infrastructure. The role emphasizes hands-on work with Linux systems, compute, storage and data centre technologies.
You will contribute to automation and documentation while working onsite at our UK HPC Hub. The successful candidate will bring a degree in Computer Science or Computer Engineering, a proactive mindset, strong communication skills

- Support the installation, maintenance and decommissioning of HPC hardware.
- Assist with CPU and GPU systems, oil-immersion servers, air-cooled servers, and storage.
- Help maintain infrastructure services and data centre equipment.
- Follow rack cabling standards and support activities within the IT workshop.
- Assist with spare-parts control, equipment audits and lease-management activities.
- Assist with identifying and automating repetitive hardware and operational processes to improve efficiency.
- Support the development, testing and documentation of simple scripts or automation tools.
- Join project and troubleshooting meetings and conference calls as required.
- Create and maintain clear technical documentation, knowledge articles, operating procedures and handover notes.
- Follow IT service management, change control, health and safety, security and quality processes.
- A recent graduate, or someone completing a degree, in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Computer Information Systems or a related technical discipline.
- An interest in computer hardware, Linux, HPC, compute, storage and data centre technologies.
- A practical, methodical approach to diagnosing and solving problems.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- A collaborative approach, with a focus on customer service and team delivery.
- Willingness to learn, take ownership and develop through hands-on experience.
- Good organisational skills and the ability to manage assigned tasks and deadlines.
- Ability to document work accurately and follow agreed procedures.
- Computational thinking and structured problem solving.
- Ability to work full-time on-site at the UK HPC Hub.
- Degree in any of the following disciplines: Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Computer Information Systems or related computing subjects.
- Equivalent technical qualifications or demonstrable practical learning may also be considered.
- Foundational knowledge of Linux administration gained through university, personal projects, placements or practical labs.
- HPC system architecture, compute or storage concepts.
- Monitoring tools such as Zabbix.
- Scripting languages and automation.
- You develop confidence in supporting Linux, HPC and cloud services and take increasing ownership of assigned work.
- You troubleshoot methodically, communicate progress clearly and elevate risks at the right time.
- Your documentation is accurate, useful and supports safe, repeatable operations.
- You actively learn from colleagues, apply feedback and contribute ideas for improvement.
