Job description

About the role

As our sole internal IT team member, you’ll be the go‑to person for all things IT across the organisation. Our devices are predominantly all Macs, and we work from the Microsoft environment, which is predominantly administered by a third‑party IT service provider. You’ll be the main point of contact for that relationship, making sure we get the most from it and that work is delivered to a high standard.

Day to day, you’ll handle IT and network queries that can be resolved in house (support through our Third-Party service desk is available for other technical queries), be responsible for our password management system and our VoIP system. Alongside this, we are looking for someone who is comfortable in helping to deliver change IT projects, sometimes using your own knowledge and experience, and where necessary to manage Third Party support to deliver.

You will work closely with, and be part of the wider business operations team, to ensure that the business runs smoothly and efficiently.

This role is a great opportunity for anyone who is comfortable working under their own initiative, perhaps wanting the autonomy of working away from a service desk, and the opportunity to be involved in many different areas of infrastructure and data security in a growing and thriving business. You’ll also be required to work closely with our internal development team who maintain our internal project management system and are currently working on our AI rollout across the business. Because of this, a knowledge of the Microsoft Co-Pilot environment and security settings would be advantageous.

The role includes:

  • Acting as the first point of contact for all internal IT queries, resolving issues promptly and keeping colleagues informed company wide

  • Setting up, enrolling and managing Mac devices using Microsoft Intune and Entra ID, including onboarding and offboarding of staff

  • Managing the relationship with our third-party IT support provider, raising and tracking tickets, escalating where needed and holding them to agreed service levels

  • Administering our password management system, including user access, shared folders and security policies

  • Managing our phone system, including users, numbers, call routing and troubleshooting

  • Supporting Microsoft 365 applications such as Outlook, Teams, SharePoint and OneDrive on Mac

  • Handling sensitive personal data with care and following data protection (UK GDPR) and security best practice

  • Helping to plan, manage and deliver larger IT projects, working with internal teams and external suppliers

  • Maintaining accurate records of hardware, software, licences and user accounts

  • Writing clear guidance and documentation for colleagues and for IT processes

  • Identifying and suggesting improvements to our systems, security and ways of working

About you

You'll have solid, hands‑on experience in IT support and be comfortable being the only IT person in an organisation. You'll know your way around the Microsoft cloud and, crucially, how to make it work well on Macs.

Essential experience and skills

  • Proven experience in an IT support or IT engineer role, ideally including time as a sole or lead IT contact

  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Intune and Entra ID, specifically for enrolling and managing macOS devices

  • Good experience supporting Microsoft 365 in a Mac environment

  • Experience managing third-party IT suppliers or managed service providers

  • Experience with password management tools, ideally Keeper

  • Experience supporting business phone systems

  • Experience contributing to or leading IT projects from planning through to delivery

  • A good understanding of data protection (UK GDPR) and IT security good practice

Desirable skills

  • Knowledge of Microsoft Defender and Purview

  • Understand how to implement SSO across software’s and systems

  • Knowledge of Microsoft Power Automate / CoPilot

Personal qualities

  • Trustworthy and discreet, with the integrity to handle sensitive personal data

  • Self-motivated and organised, able to prioritise your own workload without day-to-day supervision

  • A clear, friendly communicator who can explain technical issues in plain English to non-technical colleagues

  • Confident holding suppliers to account while keeping good working relationships

  • Proactive and curious, always looking for ways to improve how things are done
