The MRC Biostatistics Unit is one of Europe's leading biostatistics research institutions. Our focus is to deliver new analytical and computational strategies based on sound statistical principles for the challenging tasks facing biomedicine and public health. The Unit is situated on the Cambridge Biomedical Campus, one of the world's most vibrant centres of biomedical research, which includes the University of Cambridge's Clinical School, two major hospitals, the MRC Laboratory of Molecular Biology, and the world headquarters of Astra Zeneca.
We are seeking an enthusiastic and efficient individual to lead the Unit's computing team, taking responsibility for the IT service and infrastructure. You will be responsible for creating the Unit's IT vision and delivering it through a small team of dedicated IT professionals, line managing 4 staff. Using project work and day-to-day service delivery, you will ensure IT supports the Unit's research and administrative functions.
The University of Cambridge is undertaking a significant programme to unify IT services and enhance cybersecurity. You will represent the Unit’s needs within the School and at University level, leading strategic projects.
This role can be full time or part time (minimum 30 hours/week), with flexible working patterns across 4 or 5 days. Hybrid working is supported, with an average minimum of 2 days in the office.
You should have a degree or equivalent and significant technical and management experience in higher education or a commercial environment. Leadership skills, relationship building, project management experience, and operational expertise in IT infrastructure are essential. Knowledge of Windows, Mac, iOS clients, Cisco networking, server environments, authentication services, OS/software deployment, virtualization, and web technologies is required. Experience in scientific computing, including high-performance computing, is advantageous. Strong interpersonal, communication, and financial skills are also important.
