Job description

Parfitt Cresswell is looking for an IT Manager to own software support, user training and the continuous improvement of the systems our lawyers and staff use every day. Based at our Windsor or Sutton office, full time, reporting to IT Director.

About Parfitt Cresswell

Parfitt Cresswell is a multi-office law firm across London and the South East, serving private clients and businesses. We have grown by bringing together long-established local practices, and several still trade under their own names: Charles Coleman & Co., Colemans, Copley Clark, Jevons Riley & Pope, Keene Marsland and Max Barford & Co. All are part of Parfitt Cresswell Limited.

Our systems are built on Microsoft 365, SharePoint and Azure. Our in-house bespoke matter and case management platform tie them together. That bespoke software is now being rebuilt on AI-assisted development platforms, so systems can be shaped by people who understand the business deeply, not only by programmers. This role sits at the center of that change.

The role

You will make sure our people get the most out of the systems they rely on, and help us build better ones. You will spend your time supporting software, training users and working alongside fee earners and support staff to improve how our systems work.

This is not a traditional infrastructure post. Servers, networks, devices and security operations are handled by our managed service provider, TecWork. Your focus is the layer our people actually touch: the case management system, the portal, Microsoft 365, and the processes built around them.

As our bespoke software moves to AI-assisted development, you will not need to be a programmer. You will need strong software knowledge, a good feel for how systems should behave, and the judgement to turn what users need into clear requirements, then to test, refine and roll out the result.

Key responsibilities
Software support
  • Be the senior point of contact for software issues across the firm, working through problems with users until they are resolved
  • Support our case management system, portal, document management in SharePoint, and Microsoft 365 applications
  • Triage issues between software problems you own and infrastructure problems for TecWork, and follow them through
  • Support and guide the Software Support Officer in the southern offices
  • Keep clear records of recurring issues and use them to drive fixes, not workarounds
User training
  • Run induction training on our systems for every new starter, in person and online
  • Deliver refresher and new-feature training to fee earners, secretaries and support teams
  • Write short, practical guides, how-to videos and FAQs that people actually use
  • Build confidence with Microsoft 365, including Outlook, Teams, SharePoint, OneDrive and Copilot
Improving our systems
  • Spend time in each office understanding how people work and where systems slow them down
  • Turn user needs into clear requirements, then work with AI development tools to build, test and refine changes
  • Test new releases thoroughly before they reach users, and manage roll-out and feedback
  • Keep a prioritised list of improvements, agreed with IT Director and practice leads
  • Help the firm adopt AI tools safely and sensibly, with appropriate controls on client data
Microsoft 365 and Azure
  • Administer users, licences, groups, Teams and SharePoint sites day to day
  • Work with Entra ID, app registrations and permissions for our in-house applications
  • Understand the Azure services our systems run on, including Azure SQL and Azure Functions, well enough to diagnose problems and brief TecWork
Working with TecWork
  • Act as the firm's day-to-day contact with TecWork, raising and chasing tickets and reviewing service levels
  • Make sure joiners, movers and leavers are handled promptly and securely
  • Support information security, data protection and the firm's regulatory obligations
About you

You are the person colleagues already go to when software is not doing what they need. You are patient with users, curious about how things work, and you like to finish what you start.

Essential
  • At least 5 years in IT support, business systems or application support, including time in a senior or lead role
  • Strong, hands-on knowledge of Microsoft 365 administration: Exchange Online, Teams, SharePoint, OneDrive and Entra ID
  • Good working understanding of Azure and how cloud-hosted business applications fit together
  • Proven experience designing and delivering user training to non-technical audiences
  • The ability to turn a user's problem into a clear, testable requirement
  • Confidence working with third-party suppliers and managed service providers
  • Excellent communication skills, in writing and in person, at every level of the firm
  • A full UK driving licence and your own car
Desirable
  • Experience in a law firm or another regulated professional services business
  • Experience with case or practice management systems and document management
  • Hands-on use of AI-assisted or low-code development tools, or a strong interest in learning them
  • Familiarity with SQL, data and reporting
  • A Microsoft certification such as MS-102 or AZ-900, or ITIL Foundation
  • Understanding of UK GDPR, Cyber Essentials and information security good practice
  • Knowledge of AI tools and desire to use AI to help users in their day to day work.
Location and travel

You will be based at our Windsor or Sutton office, whichever suits you better. Being visible in the offices is a large part of this role, so you will travel regularly between Windsor, Sutton, Banstead and Reading, with occasional visits to our other offices across the South East.

You will need your own car. Business mileage and travel expenses are paid in line with firm policy.

What we offer
  • Salary: Competitive based on experience
  • 25 days' holiday plus bank holidays
  • Pension scheme
  • Business mileage and travel expenses paid
  • A real say in shaping the firm's systems, with the backing of senior management
  • Parfitt Cresswell is an equal opportunities employer. We welcome applications from everyone, and will make reasonable adjustments at any stage of the process. No agencies, please.
