Hamilton Barnes is seeking an IT Automation Architect in the United Kingdom to define and scale an Automation Centre of Excellence. The role blends engineering excellence with architectural governance to drive automated IT delivery.

RESPONSIBILITIES include establishing reference architectures, driving adoption of automation, and ensuring security, compliance and operational maturity across IT teams.

Qualifications

• Strong enterprise architecture and solution architecture capabilities.

Responsibilities

• Define and evolve the IT automation strategy, target architecture, standards and governance for the Automation Centre of Excellence (CoE).

• Establish and maintain automation policies, standards, reusable patterns and governance for consistency, scalability and compliance.

The organization is currently on the lookout for an IT Automation Architect to help define, build, and scale a new IT automation capability. The ideal candidate will architect automation frameworks, patterns, and guardrails while driving adoption across IT teams, blending deep technical engineering expertise with strategic architectural thinking to establish governance and deliver real operational impact through automation.

Responsibilities:

• Define and evolve the IT automation strategy, target architecture, standards, governance framework, and technology roadmap for the Automation Centre of Excellence (CoE).
• Identify, assess, and prioritise automation opportunities that improve operational efficiency, service quality, and user experience.
• Establish and maintain automation policies, standards, reusable patterns, and governance processes to drive consistency, scalability, and compliance across IT.
• Architect enterprise automation solutions across infrastructure, cloud, network, cybersecurity, identity, end-user computing, IT service management, and operations.
• Develop reference architectures, design standards, integration patterns, and implementation guidance that enable IT teams to deliver secure and scalable automation solutions.
• Evaluate and recommend automation technologies and platforms that align with organisational objectives and enterprise architecture principles.
• Provide architectural leadership, design guidance, and technical assurance for automation initiatives delivered by IT teams.
• Lead architecture reviews, design workshops, and governance activities to ensure solutions align with approved standards, security requirements, and operational objectives.
• Establish guardrails that enable innovation while maintaining security, compliance, resilience, and operational integrity.
• Partner with IT stakeholders to develop automation roadmaps, validate requirements, and align initiatives with organisational priorities.
• Act as the subject matter expert for automation architecture, promoting best practices, capability development, and an automation-first culture across IT.
• Mentor technical teams and facilitate knowledge sharing to increase automation maturity and adoption.

Skills/Must have:

• Strong enterprise architecture and solution architecture capabilities.
• Strong understanding of IT infrastructure, cloud services, networks, cybersecurity, identity and access management, end-user computing, and IT service management practices.
• Knowledge of automation platforms, scripting technologies, cloud-native automation capabilities, orchestration frameworks, CI/CD concepts, and infrastructure-as-code approaches.
• Strong stakeholder management, communication, facilitation, and presentation skills.
• Ability to translate organisational requirements into scalable, secure, and supportable automation architectures.

Salary:

• £85,000 - £110,000 Basic Salary Per Annum
