IT Audit Specialist, Newcastle upon Tyne

The National Audit Office (NAO) is seeking an experienced IT Audit Specialist to join their team supporting financial audits through IT controls and systems expertise. The role is based in Newcastle upon Tyne, UK, with some positions in London, and requires an EU work permit.

Key Details:

  • Location: Newcastle upon Tyne, UK (or London)
  • Salary: circa £61,000 (Newcastle), £67,000 (London)
  • Closing Date: 3 June 2025

Job Overview:

The NAO supports parliament in scrutinizing government spending and improving public services. The IT Audit Specialist will support audits by testing IT controls, supporting system migrations, and developing audit methodologies, working closely with a team of specialists and managers.

Responsibilities include:

  • Supporting the planning and execution of IT audits, including testing of automated controls and general IT controls.
  • Developing audit work programs and guidance materials.
  • Interpreting complex IT systems such as Oracle, SAP, Active Directory, and cloud-based systems.
  • Producing clear reports and recommendations based on audit findings.
  • Maintaining relationships with clients and internal teams.

Candidate Profile:

  • Strong academic background and IT audit experience, preferably with Oracle and SAP systems.
  • Possession of or working towards an IT audit qualification such as CISA is preferred.
  • Excellent report writing and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and manage end-to-end audit processes.
