Job summary

SILA Linguists is recruiting freelance Iranian Azerbaijani interpreters and translators for asylum, legal, healthcare and community assignments, remotely or on site. Remote or on-site work options are available across the UK with flexible scheduling to fit your availability.

Assignments include asylum interviews, solicitor appointments, tribunal hearings, mental health care and GP visits, with confidential handling and professional standards.

Qualifications

• Native or near-native fluency in Iranian Azerbaijani and English.
• Good Farsi knowledge; DBS check willingness.
• Right to work in the UK for on-site work.
• Knowledge of regional dialects preferred.

Responsibilities

• Interpret for clients from north-west Iran, recognising Farsi loanwords and regional speech from Tabriz, Urmia and Ardabil.
• Translate Farsi-script documents and statements, using consistent spellings of names and places.
• Keep everything you hear and read on assignments strictly confidential, and remain impartial throughout.
• Build and maintain your own glossaries for the sectors you work in.
• Attend video and telephone assignments from a quiet, private space with a reliable connection.
• Produce accurate transcripts and English translations of recorded Iranian Azerbaijani speech, for example police interviews or research recordings.
