Job summary

St. Luke’s Hospice in Basildon is recruiting a Registered Nurse to deliver holistic, evidence-based nursing care for patients with life-limiting conditions.

You will work within a multidisciplinary team to plan, implement, and evaluate care, administer medications, and support families in line with hospice protocols. The role requires current NMC registration (Adult or Mental Health), strong clinical skills, and compassionate communication.

Qualifications

  • Current NMC registration (Adult or Mental Health).
  • Clinical nursing experience in palliative, hospice, community, acute, or care home settings.
  • Strong assessment, organisational and time-management skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication with compassionate approach.
  • Ability to work in multidisciplinary teams and under pressure.
  • Confident IT skills with documentation systems.

Registered Nurse Opportunity – Specialist Palliative Care

As a Registered Nurse at St. Luke’s Hospice, you will play a vital role in providing safe, effective, and holistic care for patients with complex health needs. Working collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team, you will ensure excellent standards of care and dignity for all individuals, supporting them in their preferred place of care and maximising quality of life.

Key Responsibilities – Nursing Care and Clinical Excellence
  • Deliver evidence-based, person-centred nursing care to patients with life-limiting conditions and their families.
  • Support assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of individualised care plans in partnership with patients, carers, and colleagues.
  • Administer medications, carry out clinical procedures, and manage symptoms in line with hospice protocols and best practice.
  • Collaborate with multi-professional teams, including doctors, therapists, and external health and social care partners, to ensure seamless integrated care.
  • Contribute to effective communication, continuity of care, and timely sharing of information, demonstrating a sensitive and respectful approach at all times.
  • Maintain accurate, up-to-date clinical records in accordance with NMC standards and hospice policies.
  • Provide emotional and psychological support to patients and families, signposting to relevant hospice and community services as appropriate.
  • Participate in audits, clinical governance, quality improvement initiatives, and educational activities to enhance nursing practice.
Skills, Qualifications, and Experience – Registered Nurse
  • Registered Nurse with current NMC registration (either Adult or Mental Health).
  • Demonstrable experience in a clinical nursing setting (palliative, hospice, community, acute, or care home settings welcomed).
  • Strong clinical assessment, organisational, and time management skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication abilities, with a compassionate and non-judgemental approach.
  • Ability to work collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams and make informed decisions under pressure.
  • Confident IT skills, including documentation and electronic patient record systems.

  • Salary: £28,848.94 to £34,780 per year (dependent on experience and contracted hours).
