Big Issue Invest is seeking an Investment Associate to support the Growth Impact Fund, backing diverse-led, purpose-driven organisations tackling inequality. You will source, assess and manage investments, helping founders build financially resilient organisations and increase social impact.

You will own defined workstreams with support, develop strong investment judgement and contribute to evidence-based recommendations that guide mission-aligned decisions.

Qualifications

• Experience in investment work: sourcing, due diligence, financial assessment, investment papers, deal support or portfolio monitoring.
• Strong financial and commercial analysis using financial statements, cash flow and Excel models.
• Experience in social/impact investing, lending, grant-making, private equity, corporate finance or consulting.

Big Issue Invest is looking for an Investment Associate to support the Growth Impact Fund, which backs diverse-led, purpose-driven organisations tackling inequality. Working closely with the Investment Director and the wider investment team, you will help source, assess and manage investments while supporting founders to build financially resilient organisations and increase their social impact.

In this role, you will own defined workstreams with support, develop strong investment judgement and contribute to clear, evidence-based recommendations that help the Fund make thoughtful, mission-aligned investment decisions.

What you will do

• Source and assess investment opportunities aligned with the Fund’s mission.
• Deliver proportionate financial, commercial, operational and impact due diligence.
• Build financial models, identify risks and prepare clear investment recommendations.
• Support transaction execution and maintain accurate records and audit trails.

Essential skills and experience

• Experience of investment work, such as sourcing, due diligence, financial assessment, investment papers, deal support or portfolio monitoring.
• Strong financial and commercial analysis skills, including working with financial statements, cash flow and Excel models.
• Experience in areas such as social investment, impact investing, lending, grant-making, private equity, corporate finance or consulting.
• Ability to assess financial strength and social impact.
• Ability and willingness to use AI to support and enhance the quality and efficiency of your work and support decision-making, applying it responsibly and developing your skills as tools evolve.
• Clear communication skills, with the ability to explain recommendations to different audiences.
• Good judgement, attention to detail and an understanding of confidentiality and conflicts of interest.
• A collaborative and inclusive approach, with the ability and willingness to work across teams, share expertise and contribute capacity where it is most needed, alongside a commitment to supporting underrepresented founders.

Salary and Benefits offered

• Salary – circa £40,000 depending on experience
• Incremental holiday entitlement starting at 28 days per year plus bank holidays (pro-rata for part time staff) plus paid leave to care for a sick child or grandchild and a sick or elderly relation

This role is based remotely but will require occasional travel to our Head Office in London
