Job summary

Our client, a specialist in railway maintenance and engineering, is seeking an Inventory & Tooling Controller to support stores, inventory and materials management. This hands-on role involves stock control, goods inwards/dispatch, tooling management and workshop support to ensure materials are available when required and processes are safe and efficient.

Contract: 3 months, 40 hours/week, Mon-Fri 07:00-15:30.

Qualifications

  • GCSE Maths and English at Grade 4/C or equivalent.
  • Valid UK driving licence.
  • Valid reach and counterbalance forklift licences.
  • Good IT skills, including Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Strong organisational, communication and problem-solving skills.

Responsibilities

  • Receive, inspect, store and issue materials with accurate stock records.
  • Maintain stock levels, locations and normal stock checks.
  • Coordinate return of materials for repair, overhaul, calibration or replacement.
  • Prepare, package and dispatch materials and orders with required documentation.
  • Load/unload deliveries using forklift; ensure safe handling and storage.
  • Keep stores/workshop area clean, organised and safe.
  • Update inventory records and material transactions in the MRP system.
  • Liaise with suppliers and internal teams to resolve material and quality issues.
  • Support continuous improvement in materials management.
  • Occasional delivery driving and general workshop maintenance.
  • Follow all health, safety, quality and environmental procedures.

Job description

Our client is a specialist provider of railway maintenance and engineering solutions, supporting the rail industry through the delivery of specialist equipment, services and overhaul projects.

They are looking for a hands-on and organised Inventory & Tooling Controller to support their stores, inventory and materials management operations. This is a varied role involving stock control, goods inwards and dispatch, tooling management and general workshop support, ensuring materials are available when required and all activities are completed safely and efficiently.

Employment Type: 3 Month Contract
Hours:40 hours per week, Mon-Fri 07:00-15:30

Key Responsibilities
  • Receive, inspect, store and issue materials, ensuring accurate stock records and system updates.
  • Maintain stock levels, storage locations, part identification and regular stock checks.
  • Coordinate the return of materials for repair, overhaul, calibration or replacement.
  • Prepare, package and dispatch materials and orders, ensuring all required documentation is completed.
  • Load and unload deliveries using forklift equipment, ensuring safe handling and secure storage.
  • Maintain a clean, organised and safe stores and workshop environment.
  • Update inventory records and material transactions within the MRP system.
  • Liaise with suppliers and internal teams to resolve material, delivery and quality issues.
  • Support continuous improvement and efficient materials management.
  • Undertake occasional delivery driving and general workshop maintenance.
  • Follow all relevant health, safety, quality and environmental procedures.
Essential Requirements
  • GCSE Maths and English at Grade 4/C or equivalent.
  • Valid UK driving licence.
  • Valid reach and counterbalance forklift licences.
  • Good IT skills, including Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Strong organisational, communication and problem-solving skills.
  • A practical, hands-on approach with the ability to handle materials safely.
Desirable Experience
  • At least two years' experience in a fast-paced industrial or heavy engineering environment.
  • Previous experience in stores, inventory control, warehousing, logistics or materials management.
  • Familiarity with stock management or MRP systems.
  • Understanding of COSHH, manual handling and health and safety procedures.
  • PAT testing qualification, or willingness to undertake training.
