Job summary

The MOD - Navy Command is seeking an Inventory Manager for a six-month contract to lead spares modelling, ranging, and obsolescence planning in a complex defence environment. You will collaborate with delivery managers, commercial, finance and engineering to ensure accurate, affordable inventory that meets operational needs.

The role is hybrid and Inside IR35, with two to three days on site per week, and requires SC clearance or willingness to undergo the checks.

Qualifications

Job description

On behalf of the MOD - Navy Command, we are looking for an Inventory Manager - Complex Weapons (Inside IR35) for a 6 month contract. This is a hybrid working part-time role (two - three days per week onsite).

Job Purpose

The Inventory Manager will provide specialist inventory, spares and supportability management support to the team. The post holder will develop and maintain the spares model, undertake ranging and scaling activity, review supplier inventory cost assumptions, support GFE and obsolescence planning, and contribute to the development of approval and contract artefacts including OBC artefacts, ITN documentation and SSDT outputs. The role will work closely with Delivery Managers, BAE, commercial, finance, logistics, engineering, safety and project controls stakeholders to ensure inventory requirements are accurate, affordable, supportable and aligned with operational needs.

SC Clearance is an essential requirement for this role, as a minimum you must be willing & eligible to undergo checks. Please note, due to the exceptional requirements of this position (short-term nature of this role and speed at which we require a postholder in situ) preference may be given to candidates who meet all of the essential criteria and hold active security clearance.

As an Inventory Manager - Complex Weapons, your main responsibilities will be to:

• Develop, maintain and assure a spares model that supports WH2 operational requirements, through-life support planning and approval evidence.
• Conduct spares ranging and scaling to determine optimal inventory levels, taking account of operational demand, fleet availability, support policy, risk and affordability.
• Review BAE Basis of Estimate inputs for inventory-related costs, challenging assumptions and supporting evidence where required.
• Review and support development of the Government Furnished Equipment plan, ensuring GFE requirements, availability, ownership and handover assumptions are understood.
• Support review of the Obsolescence Plan to identify risks associated with outdated equipment, components, support equipment or spares, and ensure appropriate mitigation activity is captured.
• Plan and manage disposal routes for surplus, unserviceable or obsolete inventory, ensuring compliance with MOD policy, safety, security, environmental and accounting requirements.
• Coordinate logistics and transportation requirements for inventory delivery, storage, issue, return and movement between MOD, industry and operational stakeholders.

Essential

• Experience of inventory, supply-chain, logistics, materiel, spares or supportability management in a defence, engineering, operational support or similarly complex environment.
• Experience developing or supporting spares models, inventory forecasts, ranging and scaling activity or demand-based inventory planning.
• Experience reviewing supplier cost assumptions, inventory evidence, contract deliverables, performance data or supportability inputs.
• Experience supporting GFE planning, obsolescence management, disposal activity, logistics coordination or asset data management.
• Experience working with inventory data and management systems, including NAWDAS, MJDI or similar logistics, inventory or asset-management systems.
• Experience working with suppliers and multi-disciplinary stakeholders to resolve inventory, delivery, quality, cost or data issues.
• Experience contributing to formal documentation, reports, assurance reviews, audits, approval artefacts or contract documentation.

Desirable

• Previous military service experience
• Experience supporting OBC artefacts, ITN documentation, SSDT artefacts, TLMP development, support strategies or spares model evidence.
• Experience of MOD inventory policy, GFE controls, disposal processes, obsolescence management, contract assurance or supportability analysis.
• Experience engaging with BAE or other defence suppliers in relation to inventory, spares, delivery performance, BoE evidence or contractual outputs.
