Job description

This opportunity is available only to Scottish Leather Group colleagues, including All Staff and Connect colleagues already working with Scottish Leather Group.

Great manufacturing businesses don’t simply produce exceptional products – they create environments where safety, quality, teamwork, and operational excellence are part of everything they do.

By following robust processes, maintaining high standards, and taking pride in every stage of production, they consistently deliver outstanding results for both customers and colleagues.

As our Multi‑Skilled Leather Worker, you’ll play an important role in transforming raw hides into stable products ready for further processing into high‑quality finished leather. Working across multiple stages of the tannery operation, you'll support production activities safely, efficiently, and to customer specifications. With a strong focus on quality, flexibility, teamwork, and safety, you'll help ensure our products meet the high standards our customers expect while contributing to a positive and high‑performing working environment.

In this role you will:
  • Carry out a variety of tannery operations including hide inspection, clipping‑on, Bauce machine operation, lime yard activities, fleshing, trimming, splitting, rounding, hide selection, and palletising.
  • Weigh, process, inspect, grade, and handle hides throughout the production process to ensure quality standards and customer specifications are met.
  • Operate machinery and equipment safely and effectively, following Standard Operating Procedures and safe systems of work.
  • Perform hide selection and grading activities based on physical appearance, weight, size, and quality requirements.
  • Operate forklift trucks where appropriately trained and licensed.
  • Support the training and mentoring of colleagues to improve cross‑skilling, flexibility, and operational capability across the team.
  • Meet production targets while maintaining high standards of quality, accuracy, efficiency, and customer service.
  • Follow all Health and Safety procedures, proactively identifying hazards, maintaining safe working areas, and contributing to our Zero Tolerance Health & Safety culture.

You’re someone who takes pride in doing a job properly. You understand that producing high‑quality leather depends on consistency, attention to detail, teamwork, and a commitment to safe working practices. You’re adaptable, proactive, and eager to learn, with the determination to maintain high standards while supporting colleagues and delivering excellent results.

You will:
  • Have excellent attention to detail, ensuring work is completed accurately, thoroughly, and to the required quality standards.
  • Be able to follow Standard Operating Procedures, work instructions, and production processes consistently.
  • Work effectively as part of a team, building strong relationships and supporting colleagues to achieve shared goals.
  • Communicate clearly and confidently, sharing information and raising concerns when appropriate.
  • Be committed to achieving production targets while maintaining high standards of quality and Health & Safety.
  • Demonstrate flexibility, adaptability, and a willingness to learn new skills across multiple operational areas.
  • Take ownership of your work, using initiative, organisation, and problem‑solving skills to identify opportunities for improvement and deliver results.
  • Respond positively to feedback and continuous development; previous manufacturing experience across multiple tannery operations is beneficial but not essential, as full training will be provided.
The impact you will have

As a Multi‑Skilled Leather Worker, you'll play a vital role in supporting multiple stages of the leather manufacturing process. Your commitment to safety, teamwork, flexibility, and continuous improvement will contribute to a safe, supportive, and efficient working environment. By sharing knowledge, supporting colleagues, and maintaining high operational standards, you'll help strengthen team capability while supporting the successful delivery of production targets and customer requirements.

What’s in it for you:

You’ll benefit from a comprehensive rewards package designed to support your wellbeing, financial security, and career development.
