Job summary

Talan Group is offering an Intern Economist placement within its Strategy and Energy Consulting team, based across Birmingham and London. You will support project teams with research, data analysis and written outputs that inform client work across energy, climate, policy and economic analysis.

The role targets early‑career candidates with an interest in economics, public policy, energy or sustainability and provides coaching, feedback and hands-on experience on live projects in low‑carbon

Qualifications

• Currently studying for, or recently completed, an undergraduate or postgraduate degree in economics, finance, public policy, environmental policy, data science or another numerate subject.
• Good numerical and analytical skills with an interest in applying them to real-world policy, energy or sustainability questions.
• Clear written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain research or analysis in a structured and accessible way.
• Ability to work collaboratively in a team, ask questions and respond positively to feedback.
• Experience using Excel for analysis, charts or simple modelling and basic data handling.

Responsibilities

• Assist with quantitative analysis such as cost comparisons, policy impact analysis, scenario analysis and basic economic or financial appraisal.
• Gather, clean and organise data from public sources, client materials and internal analysis to support project work.
• Help compare policy options, business models and low-carbon technologies using commercial, economic, social and environmental criteria.
• Support development of spreadsheets, calculations, charts and evidence packs with guidance from project colleagues.
• Carry out desk research and summarise findings clearly for project teams.
• Translate data and evidence into clear messages, charts, written reports and PowerPoint slides.
