Job description

Intermediate Mechanical Design Engineer, Nottingham

This role involves creating mechanical service designs, calculations, specifications, and tender documents within a project team.

Responsibilities:

1. Prepare specifications, equipment schedules, drawings, and information to installation and fully coordinated standards (RIBA Stage 5).
2. Develop detailed budget costs and estimates when necessary.
3. Collaborate with electrical / energy / Part L engineers for low-energy design solutions.
4. Represent the company at design team and project meetings.
5. Conduct site quality and legislative inspections and generate associated reports.
6. Provide technical and commercial solutions.
7. Conduct feasibility studies.
8. Produce technical reports, specifications, contract documents, etc.
9. Engage directly with clients and contractors.
10. Supervise junior staff on a day-to-day basis.

Requirements:

Essential:

• Previous experience as a Design Engineer or similar role.
• At least 2 years’ experience in mechanical building services design.
• Experience as a design consultant or contractor.
• Expertise in mechanical building services/HVAC design (e.g., domestic water services, ventilation, heating, cooling, renewables, and sustainability).
• Practical experience with TAS, Cymap, and AutoCAD.
• Knowledge of thermal modelling SAP and SBEM.
• Background in mechanical building engineering services, mechanical detail, and performance design.
• Experience fulfilling building regulations Part L and BREEAM responsibilities.
• HNC qualification in a relevant building services field.
• Valid UK driving licence.

Desirable:

• Experience in building services design environment; exposure to SAP, SBEM, and LZC reporting.
• Experience with Revit MED or Magicad.
• Degree in a relevant building services field.
• Familiarity with internal drainage.
• Chartered Engineer (MCIBSE) or progressing towards it.
• Experience guiding and supervising junior staff.
