Job summary

ETA Projects Ltd, part of the BRUSH Group, is seeking an Intermediate Mechanical Design Engineer to support the mechanical building services team across healthcare, research, education and commercial sectors.

You will develop calculations, technical drawings, and reports under supervision, attend design meetings, undertake site surveys and coordinate with internal and external disciplines to ensure timely delivery. Hybrid work pattern applies (3 days in the office, 2 at home).

Qualifications

• Degree in Building Services or Mechanical Engineering or equivalent is required.
• Professional membership (CIBSE/IMechE/IHEEM) is desirable or in progress.
• Experience in mechanical building services design (consultancy or design-and-build) is essential.
• Familiarity with healthcare mechanical services and complex buildings is preferred.
• Proficiency in design software (IES, Hevacomp, Revit, AutoCAD, Excel) is expected.
• Knowledge of UK Building Regulations, CIBSE Guides, HTMs and HBNs preferred.
• Strong communication and organisational skills; ability to work in a team.
• Ability to collaborate across disciplines and coordinate with external consultants.

Responsibilities

• Assist in design and specification of mechanical building services systems (heating, cooling, ventilation, domestic water, drainage, medical gases).
• Prepare design calculations, equipment schedules and technical submissions under supervision.
• Develop schematic and layout drawings with CAD/Revit teams.
• Support preparation of technical reports and design narratives for tender/construction packages.
• Carry out site surveys and inspections; record findings.
• Coordinate with architectural, structural, electrical teams and external consultants.
• Assist with compliance checks against HTMs, HBNs, CIBSE Guides and Building Regulations.
• Support senior engineers in meetings and follow up on actions.
• Contribute to practice improvements and maintain design quality standards.
• Work toward Chartered status (CIBSE/IMechE/IHEEM).

The Intermediate Mechanical Design Engineer will support the mechanical design team indeveloping coordinated, compliant and efficient mechanical building services solutions. The role willinclude preparing calculations, technical drawings, specifications, and reports under the guidance ofsenior engineers.

The successful candidate will contribute to projects at all RIBA stages, attending design meetings,undertaking site surveys, and coordinating with internal and external design disciplines to ensurequality and timely delivery

Working Conditions - Hybrid working (typical 3 days office , 2 days at home ) 37.5 contractual hours per week Monday - Friday.

Key Responsibilities:

• Assist in the design and specification of mechanical building services systems including heating, cooling, ventilation, domestic water, drainage and medical gases.

• Support senior engineers in client and design team meetings by preparing materials and following up on actions.
• Contribute to practice improvements and maintain design quality standards.
• Work towards Chartered status (CIBSE/IMechE/IHEEM).
