Job summary

Vivid Resourcing Ltd is seeking an Interim Director of Waste Services for a South of England local authority on a 12-month assignment, leading waste, recycling and environmental services.

You will provide strategic leadership, drive transformation, manage significant budgets and contracts, and ensure compliance with health, safety and environmental standards while advising senior officers on waste strategy and service delivery.

Qualifications

• Extensive senior leadership experience within local authority waste, recycling or environmental services.
• Experience operating at Head of Service, Assistant Director or Director level.
• A proven track record of delivering transformation, savings programmes and service improvement.
• Strong commercial and contract management expertise.
• Experience managing political and stakeholder relationships within a local government setting.
• Excellent leadership, communication and influencing skills.

Responsibilities

• Providing strategic leadership for waste, recycling and fleet operations.
• Driving service transformation and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Managing significant operational budgets, contracts and partnerships.
• Leading large multidisciplinary teams and developing a high-performance culture.
• Ensuring compliance with relevant legislation, health and safety requirements and environmental standards.
• Advising senior officers and elected members on waste strategy and service delivery.
• Delivering efficiencies, performance improvements and sustainable outcomes.
• Supporting the council's environmental, climate and recycling ambitions.
