Job summary

Distinct Recruitment is seeking an experienced interim accountant for a 3-month contract in Leicester. The role focuses on a focused balance-sheet clean-up, VAT compliance, and IFRS16 application, with strong day-to-day UK finance support. This hands-on position requires quick uptake and thorough reconciliations.

The successful candidate will lead journal clean-up, file VAT returns, review historic journals, and prepare documentation for year-end activities in a busy transition period.

Qualifications

• Qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent) with approximately 5–6 years post-qualification experience.
• Strong working knowledge of IFRS 16.
• Proven experience of balance-sheet reconciliations and journal clean-up.
• Experience preparing VAT returns.
• Available to start at short notice.
• Pragmatic, self-motivated, and comfortable working in a busy, changing environment.

Responsibilities

• Lead the balance-sheet clean-up, reviewing and correcting historic journals.
• Prepare and file VAT returns, ensuring accuracy and timely submission.
• Provide day-to-day UK finance support.
• Reconcile balance-sheet accounts and resolve long-standing unreconciled items.
• Apply IFRS 16 correctly to leases, including reviewing existing accounting treatment.
• Support year-end-related activity and prepare clear documentation for review.
