Job summary

Adecco Public Sector is supporting a large London local authority with an Interim Structural Engineer to oversee building safety, asset management and structural compliance across a diverse portfolio.

You will lead inspections, assess defects, and provide technical advice to ensure safe, compliant buildings for residents and stakeholders. Hybrid London role with site visits and a fixed-term contract.

Qualifications

• Degree in Civil or Structural Engineering required.
• Progress towards Chartered status (CEng/MICE or MIStructE) or equivalent.
• Significant inspections and assessments experience on occupied buildings.
• Strong knowledge of design principles, defect diagnosis and risk management.
• Experience in housing/public sector or large property portfolios.
• Excellent report writing and stakeholder communication abilities.
• Ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

• Undertake structural inspections, condition assessments and investigations.
• Assess defects such as cracking, movement, deterioration, corrosion and foundations.
• Produce technical reports, recommendations and remediation specifications.
• Advise on structural risk management and Building Safety Case input.
• Support capital investment and refurbishment with structural input and assurance.
• Review designs, calculations and reports for compliance with standards.
• Provide expert technical advice to senior managers and project teams.
• Assist in managing structural safety incidents and emergencies.
• Contribute to asset management strategies and long-term planning.
• Ensure compliance with Building Safety Act, CDM, Building Regulations and BS.
