Job summary

Bedfordshire Local Authority is seeking an experienced Private Sector Housing Officer to support a busy Housing Standards service during a period of increased demand.

You will investigate complaints, conduct HHSRS assessments, lead enforcement from start to finish, and work with landlords and residents to raise standards across private rented accommodation.

Qualifications

• Background in Local Authority Private Sector Housing teams.
• Strong knowledge of HHSRS and housing enforcement legislation.
• Experience serving notices and progressing enforcement actions.
• Excellent communication and practical, solution-focused approach.

Responsibilities

The team is currently seeing a significant rise in service requests relating to damp and mould, retaliatory eviction concerns and poor conditions within privately rented accommodation. As a result, they're looking for an officer who is comfortable managing complex cases from inspection through to enforcement.

This opportunity would suit someone who enjoys being out in the district, making decisions, and working with landlords and residents to achieve real improvements rather than sitting behind a desk all day.
