Job summary

Morgan Law is seeking an Interim Payroll Officer to support a London payroll function. You will be responsible for processing payroll across a diverse workforce, including variable hours, overtime, and pensions administration.

The role requires accuracy, timely submissions, and strong collaboration with HR and managers. The position is London-based (1-2 days on-site) with a contract of 3-6 months and a daily rate up to £250, depending on experience.

Qualifications

  • Solid end-to-end payroll processing experience.
  • Experience with complex payrolls and multiple employee groups.
  • Strong knowledge of payroll legislation, HMRC requirements and pensions administration.
  • Experience in charity/not-for-profit or public sector environments is advantageous.
  • Experience processing variable pay, overtime, and absence-related payments.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to payroll accuracy.
  • Good Excel and payroll systems experience.
  • Exposure to payroll systems implementation or change programmes would be beneficial.

Responsibilities

  • Process monthly payroll from start to finish.
  • Handle overtime, variable hours, and relief workers payments.
  • Manage sleep-in payments and sickness/absence-related payments.
  • Administer pension schemes and auto-enrolment.
  • Assist HMRC submissions and payroll compliance.
  • Conduct payroll reconciliations and reporting.
  • Respond to payroll queries from staff and managers.
  • Maintain accurate payroll records and reporting.

Job description

Interim Payroll Officer

Location: London (1-2 days per week onsite required)


Start Date: Within the next 2 weeks


Duration: 3 - 6 months initially


Rate: Up to £250 per day, depending on experience


Potential: Opportunity to convert to a permanent appointment


The Role

Working as part of a small payroll function, you will be responsible for supporting the accurate and timely processing of payroll across a complex and diverse workforce.



  • Processing monthly payroll from start to finish

  • Variable hours and relief workers

  • Overtime and enhancements

  • Sleep-in payments

  • Sickness and absence-related payments

  • Salary sacrifice schemes and employee benefits

  • Multiple terms and conditions of employment

  • Pension administration and auto-enrolment

  • HMRC submissions and compliance

  • Responding to payroll queries from employees and managers

  • Maintaining accurate payroll records and supporting payroll reporting


About You


  • Solid end-to-end payroll processing experience

  • Experience within the charity, not-for-profit, social care, healthcare or wider public sector environments would be advantageous

  • Experience processing variable pay, overtime, enhancements and absence-related payments

  • Strong attention to detail and a commitment to payroll accuracy

  • Good Excel and payroll systems experience

  • Exposure to payroll systems implementation, migration, process improvement or wider change programmes would be beneficial

  • Ability to work effectively in a busy environment and meet strict payroll deadlines

  • A proactive and collaborative approach, with the confidence to identify and resolve payroll issues
