Job description

A privately owned, growing manufacturing SME (sub £50m turnover) is seeking an experienced Interim Financial Controller to support the business through a key transitional period. This is a hands-on finance leadership role within a fast-paced and dynamic environment, offering full oversight of the finance function.

Key Responsibilities:

• Full ownership of the finance function, including month-end, management accounts, and statutory reporting
• Oversight of cashflow forecasting, budgeting, and working capital management
• Ensure timely and accurate financial reporting to the MD and board
• Support the business with cost control, margin analysis, and operational performance reporting
• Lead and mentor a small finance team (2–5 staff)
• Drive process improvements and system enhancements where needed
• Support external stakeholders, including auditors and banks

Requirements:

• Qualified accountant (ACA / ACCA / CIMA or equivalent)
• Prior experience as an FC or Head of Finance in an SME, ideally within manufacturing or a product-based environment
• Strong understanding of costing, stock, and operational finance
• Proven ability to thrive in a hands-on role and deliver improvements quickly
• Comfortable operating in a standalone capacity or as part of a lean team
• Available at short notice or immediately
