Job description

Interim Finance Manager (Charity Organisation)
Location: Exeter Area
Contract Duration: Up to 12 months
Daily Rate: Up to £300 per day
Hybrid working available - 2 days needed on site

Role Overview:

Hays is collaborating with a charity organisation in the Exeter area seeking an interim Finance Manager. This pivotal role involves leading the evolution of finance business partnering within the charity to ensure key financial objectives are achieved in line with the organisation's strategy and change agenda. The post holder will deliver professional and timely financial support, fully integrating with core activities while challenging and holding budget managers to account.

Additionally, the postholder will contribute to fostering a culture of strong financial stewardship, promoting economy, efficiency, and effectiveness across the charity's global operations. This high-profile role requires building collaborative partnerships and maintaining strong relationships with the Executive, Senior Managers, and their teams across the organisation and its subsidiaries.

About You:
  • Current fully qualified member of a recognised professional accounting institute (ICAEW, ICAS, CIMA, ACCA) with extensive post-qualification experience.
  • Experience in financial and management accounting for medium to large international organisations, including multi-currency group financial reporting, budgeting, and forecasting.
  • Proven ability to lead, motivate, and develop teams, manage workloads, and meet deadlines, including performance reviews and coaching.
  • Experience in developing finance business partnering within an organisation.
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel (including building financial models) and Word.
  • Ability to analyse complex issues and tailor support to different organisational areas.
  • Experience in financial risk management and evaluating business cases and proposals.
  • Excellent communication skills, adaptable to diverse audiences.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Lead the Finance Business Partners to deliver high-quality financial information, advice, training, and support to meet operational and strategic objectives.
  • Develop and refine the charity's business partner model to align with strategic changes, ensuring efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Build networks to promote financial stewardship among non-finance managers through education and coaching.
  • Manage, train, and develop a team of finance professionals, setting SMART objectives and conducting performance reviews.
  • Enhance financial reporting to support operational decision-making and organisational risk management.
  • Act as the finance change manager for strategic projects, leading initiatives to improve financial systems and processes.
