Job summary

Hays, partnering with a Bristol-based charitable organisation, is seeking an experienced Finance Manager on an initial contract of at least 6 months. The role offers hybrid working and a pathway to support financial sustainability and growth.

You will lead financial planning, reporting and controls, manage budgeting and cash flow, and collaborate with senior stakeholders, auditors and funders to ensure robust financial governance.

Qualifications

  • Significant experience in a Finance Manager, Management Accountant or similar role.
  • Strong budgeting, forecasting and cash flow management experience.
  • Experience producing management accounts and financial reports.
  • Excellent Excel and financial systems skills.
  • A strong understanding of financial controls, governance and compliance.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to explain financial information to non-finance stakeholders.
  • Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities.

Responsibilities

  • Overseeing all day-to-day financial operations.
  • Preparing monthly management accounts and financial reports for senior stakeholders.
  • Monitoring income and expenditure against budget, identifying risks and opportunities.
  • Managing cash flow and supporting long-term financial planning.
  • Preparing year-end accounts and acting as the key contact for auditors or independent examiners.
  • Maintaining strong financial controls, governance frameworks and risk management processes.
  • Managing and monitoring restricted, designated and unrestricted funds.
  • Overseeing payroll, pensions and staff-related financial matters.
  • Developing and improving financial systems, processes and reporting capabilities.
  • Presenting financial information clearly to both financial and non-financial stakeholders.

Your New Company Hays are partnering with a well-established charitable organisation in Bristol to recruit an experienced Finance Manager on an initial contract of at least 6 months.

Operating within a complex and evolving environment, the organisation manages annual income and expenditure of approximately £1.4 million across multiple funding streams and serves a wide range of community-focused initiatives.

Your New Role As Finance Manager

you will take responsibility for the effective financial management of the organisation, providing both strategic oversight and hands-on financial leadership.

Working closely with senior stakeholders, you will ensure robust financial controls, accurate reporting, effective budgeting and compliance with relevant regulatory requirements.

What You Need to Succeed

To be successful in this role, you will be an experienced finance professional with a strong background in financial management, accounting and business partnering.

  • Significant experience in a Finance Manager, Management Accountant or similar role.
  • Strong budgeting, forecasting and cash flow management experience.
  • Experience producing management accounts and financial reports.
  • Excellent Excel and financial systems skills.
  • A strong understanding of financial controls, governance and compliance.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to explain financial information to non-finance stakeholders.
  • Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities.
Desirable experience includes:
  • Previous experience within a charity, not-for-profit or public sector environment.
  • Knowledge of charity accounting and fund management.
  • Experience managing complex or multi-stream income sources.
  • Exposure to payroll, pensions and employment-related finance matters.
