Job summary

CMC Consulting Ltd seeks an experienced Interim Finance Director to lead the finance function during a transition. The role acts as a trusted deputy to the CFO and engages with the Board and Executive team to drive robust financial management and decision-making.

The successful candidate will oversee planning, budgeting, forecasting and reporting, providing commercial insight and managing treasury, risk, and finance team development during the interim period.

Qualifications

• Qualified accountant with ACA/ACCA/CIMA or equivalent.
• Significant post-qualification experience at Finance Director or senior finance leadership level.
• Proven interim experience delivering value quickly.
• Confidence to challenge and influence at Board level.
• Experience leading finance through change programs.

Responsibilities

Job description

We are seeking an experienced Interim Finance Director to lead the finance function of a large and complex, purpose-driven organisation during a period of transition. This is a senior, hands-on leadership role requiring a qualified finance professional with strong commercial acumen and a proven track record in interim or change-management positions.

The successful candidate will act as a trusted deputy to the CFO, stepping in to represent finance at the most senior level when required, and will bring the confidence and credibility to challenge and constructively test thinking in Board and Executive discussions.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide strategic and commercial financial leadership to the Executive team and Board, ensuring robust financial management and control during the interim period
• Deputise for the CFO as required, including representing finance at Board and Executive level in their absence
• Constructively challenge and stress-test proposals, assumptions and strategic options in Board and senior leadership discussions, bringing independent commercial judgement
• Oversee financial planning, budgeting, forecasting and reporting processes, with a strong commercial lens on performance and value creation
• Provide commercial insight and analysis to support decision-making, business development and investment appraisal
• Manage cash flow, treasury and financial risk
• Ensure compliance with statutory, regulatory and governance requirements
• Lead, develop and support the finance team
• Review and strengthen financial systems, processes and controls as required
• Support the organisation through any transition, restructuring or transformation activity relevant to the finance function
• Act as a key commercial business partner to other departments and senior stakeholders
• Prepare for and support the transition to a permanent finance leadership appointment, where applicable

Candidate Requirements

• Qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent)
• Significant post-qualification experience at Finance Director or senior finance leadership level, with strong commercial finance experience
• Proven experience operating in an interim capacity, with the ability to add value quicklyDemonstrable experience deputising for a CFO or equivalent senior finance leader
• Confidence and gravitas to challenge and influence at Board level
• Strong technical financial knowledge combined with commercial and strategic acumen
• Excellent leadership, stakeholder management and communication skills
• Experience managing finance functions through periods of change
