Job summary

BDO is seeking an experienced Interim Chief Risk Officer to support a platform-based banking business through regulatory authorisation. The CRO will shape risk strategy, establish governance and risk frameworks, and lead critical interactions with PRA and FCA.

Qualifications

• Previous experience as CRO, Deputy CRO or equivalent senior risk leader in a UK regulated bank.
• Strong understanding of risk management requirements for regulated banks.
• Extensive PRA and FCA engagement experience.
• Proven ability to advise boards and executive teams.

Responsibilities

• Define and develop the bank's overall risk strategy and ERM framework.
• Establish risk taxonomy, appetite framework, policies, and governance.
• Assess risk from business model, operating model, customers, products.
• Advise leadership on appropriate risk profile for the future bank.
• Translate risk appetite into limits, controls, monitoring and MI.
• Establish risk governance, escalation and Board reporting.
• Provide senior risk leadership during authorisation process.
• Prepare for regulatory engagement with PRA and FCA.
• Address regulatory questions about business model, governance, resilience.
• Lead ICAAP and ILAAP development; ensure capital/liquidity alignment.
• Support transition to permanent CRO and risk function.
