Job summary

Bayman Atkinson Smythe is assisting in recruiting an Interim Assistant Accountant for a 9-month maternity cover in Manchester. The role is likely hybrid, supporting a Central Finance team with month-end reporting, ledgers, payroll, and audit activity.

The ideal candidate will have strong bookkeeping knowledge, be able to investigate variances, manage deadlines and liaise with colleagues and external contacts. Charity sector experience is advantageous but not essential.

Qualifications

• Experience producing and analysing financial information.
• Sound double-entry bookkeeping knowledge.
• AAT Level 3/4 or equivalent practical experience.
• Intermediate Excel skills.
• Strong numerical, analytical and organisational skills.
• The ability to manage deadlines and work independently or within a team.
• Clear communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Support month-end close, balance-sheet reconciliations and journal postings.
• Prepare management accounts and finance reports.
• Complete VAT returns and reconcile control accounts.
• Review and reconcile UK payroll including journals.
• Process invoices, payments and aged debtor/creditor reports.
• Reconcile bank, supplier, customer, expenses and corporate card transactions.
• Support statutory accounts, grant audits and external audits.
• Respond to finance queries and contribute to process improvements.
