Job summary

Scrumconnect Consulting in London is seeking an Interaction Designer to shape how councils access and apply digital guidance. You will design for WordPress-based delivery, ground decisions in sector research, and ensure accessibility across devices and WCAG 2.2 AA compliance.

You will prototype with council users, iterate from evidence, and work with developers to deliver patterns and reusable components within platform constraints.

Qualifications

• SC cleared or eligible for security clearance.
• Experience designing and shipping interaction design for complex digital services.
• Experience designing for WordPress sites (themes, templates and the block editor).
• Experience prototyping and usability testing.
• Understanding of accessibility and inclusive design.
• Able to explain design decisions to stakeholders and collaborate across disciplines.
• A portfolio showing end-to-end work and the evidence behind it.
• Working knowledge of the GOV.UK Design System, the Prototype Kit and the Service Manual.
• Experience in UK government or the wider public sector, including service assessments.
• Experience designing for knowledge-sharing or community-contribution products.
• Experience designing tools that support decisions, such as checklists, planners and frameworks.
• Familiarity with working alongside user researchers.

The Role

The playbook helps councils manage the digital and cyber risks of local government reorganisation under tight timelines. As the Interaction Designer, you'll shape how councils find, understand and apply that guidance, and how they contribute their own learning back. It currently runs on WordPress, and the target platform isn't confirmed, so you'll design for what the platform can realistically deliver. You'll design for users who are often under pressure and short of time, and ground your work in sector research.

Key Responsibilities

Design end-to-end journeys for the main user tasks, such as finding relevant guidance, using decision-support tools and contributing material.

Prototype and test designs with council users, and iterate from the evidence.

Design within the platform's constraints (currently WordPress themes, templates and blocks), and propose and document reusable patterns where existing ones don't fit.

Apply GOV.UK Design System patterns where the chosen platform allows.

Make sure designs meet WCAG 2.2 AA and work on the devices councils use.

Work with the content designer on structure, navigation and tone, so design and content work together.

Work closely with the developer to get designs implemented as intended, and take part in design reviews.

Document design decisions and hand over patterns and research to the permanent team.

What We're Looking For

SC cleared, active SC or SC eligible.

Demonstrable experience designing and shipping interaction design for complex digital services.

Experience designing for WordPress sites, including themes, templates and the block editor, and understanding what can and can't be configured.

Experience prototyping and usability testing.

Understanding of accessibility and inclusive design.

Able to explain design decisions to stakeholders and collaborate across disciplines.

A portfolio showing end-to-end work and the evidence behind it.

Working knowledge of the GOV.UK Design System, the Prototype Kit and the Service Manual.
