Job summary

Kent and Medway Mental Health NHS Trust is recruiting a fixed term locum consultant psychiatrist for the Intellectual Disability West Kent MHLD Team based at Britton House, Gillingham. The role focuses on Medway catchment with around 50-60 patients under responsibility and 2–3 new referrals weekly.

The post involves outpatient clinics, domiciliary visits, liaison with multiple teams, and potential inpatient admissions under MHA/MCA as needed. Part-time or job-share options are welcome.

Qualifications

• MB BS or equivalent medical qualification.
• Fully registered with the GMC with a Licence to Practise.
• On the GMC Specialist Register OR within six months of anticipated award of CCT in Psychiatry of Intellectual Disability, Forensic Psychiatry or General Adult Psychiatry.
• Approved Clinician status OR able to achieve within 3 months of appointment.
• Approved under S12 OR able to achieve with 3 months of appointment.

Responsibilities

• Manage patients' care in the community in liaison with the MHLD team and other services.
• Attend weekly West Kent Hub meetings and oversee new referrals.
• Directly assess new referrals and provide psychiatric advice to other team members.
• Contribute to clinical leadership of the team and participate in appropriate patient admissions when needed.
