Job Description:

We have an exciting opportunity for an Instrumentation, Control & Automation (ICA) or Control and Instrumentation (C&I) technician to join our Water Production Operations Team based in the SE London region.

This is a mobile role, requiring work across Water Treatment Works in Brixton, Streatham, Croydon, Orpington, and Dartford.

We seek a candidate who can work safely, efficiently, and independently, maintaining standards to meet statutory obligations and ensure asset performance.

An ICA Tech may operate and optimize processes and equipment to ensure water quality, safety, and operational efficiency, including outside normal hours.

Responsibilities:
  • Installations, commissioning, maintenance, and repairs of water production assets such as level instrumentation, flow meters, and turbidity monitors.
  • Work with SCADA systems, PLCs, and process control networks.
  • Supervise contractors and suppliers as needed.
  • Investigate asset failures and implement repairs promptly to prevent process interruptions.
  • Provide technical advice and training to apprentices.
Base Location:

Roles are based at Brixton (SW2 1SB) or Orpington (Kent, BR6 0SQ).

Working Pattern:

38 hours/week, Monday-Friday, 7:30 am – 3:36 pm, with standby and overtime opportunities, increasing earnings by approximately £8,000-£10,000 annually.

All PPE, tools, a company van, and fuel card are provided.

Candidate Requirements:
  • Practical understanding of operational assets and control systems.
  • Solid knowledge of SCADA systems.
  • Experience with relay logic and PLCs (Rockwell & Allen Bradley), including management and programming.
  • Ability to read circuit diagrams and fault find; experience with inverter drives is preferred.
  • HNC/Level 4 education or 6+ years’ experience, including apprenticeship in Control, Instrumentation, and Automation.
  • Valid driving license is essential.
  • Safety-conscious, self-motivated, disciplined, eager to learn, and proactive in fault response and problem-solving.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
