Job description

We are currently recruiting for an ICA (Instrumentation, Control & Automation) Technician, based at our Mill Green Sewage Treatment Works in Hertfordshire.

This role offers a hands-on opportunity to help keep the area's pumping stations operational. The ideal candidate will be self-motivated, disciplined, eager to learn, and possess a positive attitude. The role can be demanding but rewarding.

Daily responsibilities include responding to planned work and emergency alarms, working both independently and as part of a team, with a strong emphasis on health and safety standards.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Perform planned maintenance (PPM) and reactive repairs on equipment.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including systems, mechanical, and electrical technicians.
  • Install, modify, and commission new plant equipment, diagnose faults, and implement repairs efficiently.
  • Investigate plant failures and execute repairs promptly.
  • Provide technical advice with up-to-date knowledge.
Location & Hours:

Base at Mill Green Sewage Treatment Works, AL9 5PE. 38 hours/week, Monday-Friday, 7:30-15:36, plus standby rota with additional pay. All PPE, tools, and vans provided.

Candidate Requirements:
  • Experience with PLCs, SCADA, communication networks, and instrumentation.
  • Experience with variable speed drives and motor/pump starting methods.
  • Qualifications: HNC, City and Guilds Part 2, NVQ Level 3, or equivalent in instrumentation, control, and automation.
  • Preferred: 18th Edition (BS7671), 3-phase electrical knowledge.
  • Physical fitness for confined spaces and training completion.
  • Strong problem-solving, communication, and teamwork skills.
Benefits:
  • Salary up to £45,500/year, depending on experience.
  • 24 days holiday, increasing to 28 with service, plus bank holidays.
