Southern Water is recruiting an Instrumentation, Control and Automation Technician to support the processing of water for public use.

As an ICA Technician, you will maintain, repair, modify, configure, commission, calibrate, and install all plant instrumentation, control, and monitoring equipment, shutdown systems, alarms, and telemetry across the Southern Water region to ensure efficient and effective operation.

This role requires occasional paid out-of-hours work and during on-call scheduling.

Your responsibilities include:

  1. Fault finding, calibration, testing, investigation, and programming in technical aspects such as telemetry, flow meters, detectors, control systems, turbidity, and other measurement meters.
  2. Implement process improvements via control system modifications, diagnosing, and fixing complex process and control system faults.
  3. Conduct planned maintenance and calibrate instrumentation to Southern Water standards to ensure reliability and accuracy.
  4. Respond to instrumentation faults within Southern Water parameters, as guided by the Regional Control Centre.
  5. Investigate instruments and process problems at water plants, identify faults, and implement remedial actions.
  6. Complete documentation accurately and promptly to maintain internal change control standards, ISO9001 accreditation, and other systems.
  7. Implement control system modifications from operational requests to improve process control or compliance.
  8. Coach and train team members to develop their skills.

Skills and experience needed:

  1. NVQ3 in Electrical or Electronic Engineering or a time-served apprenticeship.
  2. Experience within a process-oriented industry such as water utility, petrochemical, electricity, manufacturing, or similar.
  3. Excellent problem-solving and fault-finding skills.
  4. Experience in instrumentation, control, or automation.
  5. Strong documentation and regulatory compliance.
  6. Collaborative with good communication skills.
  7. Enthusiasm for learning and growth.
  8. Full, current UK driving license.
