Job summary

SLB (ChampionX integration) in the UK seeks an Instrument Technician at Fawley, Southampton. You will maintain instrumentation, perform calibration, fault-find on 4–20 mA/HART loops, and support CAPEX projects with safe, compliant commissioning.

Role requires hazardous area work experience and a recognised apprenticeship plus technical qualifications. You will collaborate with engineers and coordinate contractors to maximise plant availability.

Qualifications

• Experience maintaining instrumentation, electrical or control systems in an industrial environment.
• Training and approval to work on hazardous area equipment, e.g. CompEx Ex01–Ex04, or willingness to obtain.

Responsibilities

• Carry out instrument planned, preventive and breakdown maintenance.
• Calibrate instruments and maintain calibration records and test equipment.
• Fault-find on 4–20 mA/HART loops, pneumatic systems and control system I/O.
• Perform safety instrumented functions proof testing and alarm testing.
• Inspect and maintain hazardous area (Ex) equipment per DSEAR/site rules.
• Install (CAPEX) and commission projects, including loop checks and drawings markup.
• Complete production-critical repairs and key inspections to maximise plant availability.
• Coordinate contractors and service personnel for instrument/electrical equipment.
• Record work accurately in the CMMS and provide feedback for asset data.
• Identify critical spares and raise requisitions for parts and tools.
• Work safely following Permit to Work, risk assessments and procedures.
• Collaborate with instrument/electrical engineers and other specialists.
• Participate in root cause investigations and reliability improvements.
