Job Description:

About the role: We currently have an exciting opportunity for an Instrumentation, Control & Automation (ICA) or Control and Instrumentation (C&I) technician to join our Water Production Operations Team based in North East London. This is a mobile role, requiring work at various Water Treatment Works and borehole sites around Chingford, Walthamstow, Waltham Abbey, and Stonebridge Park.

We seek someone who can work safely, efficiently, and independently, maintaining standards to meet statutory obligations and ensuring asset availability and performance standards are upheld.

An ICA Technician may operate and optimize processes and equipment to ensure water quality compliance, safety, and operational efficiency both during and outside normal hours.

Responsibilities include:

• Installation, commissioning, maintenance, and repair of water production assets, including level instrumentation, flow meters, and turbidity monitors.
• Working with SCADA systems, PLCs, and process control networks.
• Supervising contractors and suppliers as needed.
• Investigating asset failures and implementing repairs promptly to prevent water supply disruptions.
• Providing technical advice, training, and support for apprentices.

Location: Based at the Coppermills Water Production site near Walthamstow.

Working hours: 38 hours/week, Monday-Friday, 7:30 am – 3:36 pm, with standby duties and potential earnings increase of £8,000 to £10,000.

All PPE, tools, a company van, and fuel card are provided.

Qualifications and skills:

• Practical understanding of operational assets and control systems.
• Knowledge of SCADA systems.
• Experience with relay logic and PLCs (Rockwell & Allen Bradley), including management and programming.
• Ability to read circuit diagrams and fault find, with experience with inverter drives.
• HNC/Level 4 education or 6+ years' experience, including apprenticeship in Control, Instrumentation, and Automation.
• Valid driving license required.
• Safety-conscious, self-motivated, disciplined, and eager to learn.
• Strong communication and teamwork skills.
• Proactive with a can-do attitude.
