Job summary

Avanti Recruitment Limited is hiring an Installation Engineer north of London to join a field-based team. You will install, commission and maintain specialist electrical, mechanical and control systems across customer sites in the UK.

You’ll undergo specialist training and gradually take ownership of your own projects, with emphasis on fault finding, commissioning and customer handovers in a varied engineering environment.

Qualifications

• BS 7671 18th Edition qualification.
• NVQ Level 2/3 and/or City & Guilds electrical qualifications.
• Practical electrical installation experience.
• Full valid UK driving licence.
• Field-based role with UK travel.

Responsibilities

Installation Engineer
Location: North of London / Field Based
Employment: Full-time, Permanent

Are you a qualified electrician looking for something more varied than traditional electrical installation work?

We are recruiting for an established UK engineering company that designs, installs and maintains specialist electrical, mechanical and control systems for commercial customers.

Due to continued demand, they are looking for an Installation Engineer based north of London to join their field engineering team.

This is a hands‑on, technically varied role where no two days are quite the same. You will work across customer sites throughout the UK, carrying out installations, commissioning, maintenance, fault finding and customer handovers.

Specialist product and systems training will be provided, making this a great opportunity for an electrician who wants to broaden their skills across controls, electrical systems and specialist engineering equipment.

The Role

As an Installation Engineer, your responsibilities will include:

• Carrying out electrical and equipment installations
• Completing electrical wiring and associated installation work
• Undertaking customer site surveys
• Commissioning newly installed systems
• Carrying out planned preventative maintenance
• Attending reactive service and maintenance callouts
• Diagnosing electrical and controls‑related faults
• Working with electrical, mechanical and control systems
• Completing customer handovers
• Communicating professionally with customers onsite
• Taking ownership of individual jobs and managing your workload

You will initially work alongside experienced engineers while receiving training on the company's specialist systems and technology. As your knowledge develops, you will take greater responsibility for managing your own jobs.

What We're Looking For

We are looking for someone with a strong electrical background who takes pride in doing things properly and wants to continue developing technically.

You should have experience in areas such as:

• Electrical installation and wiring
• Equipment installation and maintenance
• Fault finding
• Commissioning
• Planned or reactive maintenance
• Customer-facing engineering

Essential Requirements

• BS 7671 18th Edition qualification
• Relevant electrical qualifications, such as NVQ Level 2/3 and/or City & Guilds
• Practical electrical installation experience
• Full valid UK driving licence
• Comfortable working in a field‑based position
• Based north of London or within a suitable travelling distance
• Willingness to travel to customer sites across the UK
