Job summary

Marchant Recruitment is seeking a proactive School Librarian for an Outstanding secondary school in Bury, Greater Manchester. You will manage the library, support literacy, and help pupils develop independent learning and research skills.

The role covers loans, cataloguing, resource procurement, displays, and promoting reading for pleasure. You will work with staff to integrate library resources with the curriculum and create a welcoming, well-organised study environment.

Qualifications

• Strong organisational skills.
• Experience in a library, school, or educational resource centre.
• Ability to inspire reading and independent learning in pupils.
• Confident with databases and digital cataloguing systems.

Responsibilities

• Oversee day-to-day running of the library, ensuring resources are accessible and catalogued.
• Manage loans and returns and maintain the library database.
• Order new resources and track stock.
• Create displays and recommend resources aligned to the curriculum.
• Promote reading for pleasure and organise reading challenges.
• Support pupils with research and information retrieval.
• Liaise with teachers to identify materials for lessons.
• Maintain a calm, welcoming environment and uphold safeguarding policies.
