Job summary

Marchant Recruitment is seeking a dedicated School Librarian for a Gloucestershire secondary school. You will manage the library environment, support pupils with reading, research and independent study, and collaborate with teachers to integrate reading across the curriculum.

The role requires prior school library experience, strong organisational skills and safeguarding awareness. The successful candidate will maintain orderly resources and help pupils develop information literacy.

Qualifications

• Previous experience working in a school library is essential.
• Experience using library cataloguing and borrowing systems.
• Strong organisational skills and attention to detail.
• An interest in reading and supporting pupils' literacy and research skills.
• Confident communication skills when working with pupils and staff.
• The ability to manage library routines while maintaining appropriate behaviour expectations.
• A clear understanding of safeguarding and professional boundaries.

Responsibilities

• Manage the day-to-day operation of the school library.
• Organise, catalogue and maintain books and other learning resources.
• Manage borrowing, returns, reservations and overdue items.
• Support pupils with reading choices, research tasks and locating appropriate resources.
• Maintain an orderly, welcoming environment that supports independent study.
• Assist teachers with the identification and preparation of relevant learning materials.
• Monitor stock levels and recommending new books and resources.
• Maintain library records and supporting reading initiatives and school literacy activities.
