Job summary

Bury College in the North West is seeking a passionate Lecturer in Foundation/GCSE Maths to inspire learners and develop their mathematical knowledge, skills and confidence for progression. You will deliver engaging teaching, use diverse methods and assess progress to support individual learner needs, maintaining accurate records and contributing to curriculum development.

The role includes supporting learners through Personal Tutor duties, safeguarding and promoting inclusive practice, with CPD

Qualifications

• Relevant degree or equivalent professional qualification in the curriculum area.
• Recognised teaching qualification or commitment to achieving Level 5 within two years.
• Strong numeracy and literacy skills at GCSE level or equivalent, or willingness to work towards them.
• Experience of providing effective support and guidance to learners.
• Ability to use assessment and learner data to identify and respond to individual needs.
• Commitment to professional development and keeping subject knowledge current.
• Ability to collaborate across teams to achieve learner outcomes.
• Reflective approach and openness to feedback to improve practice.

Responsibilities

• Plan and deliver engaging, inclusive and challenging Foundation/GCSE Maths sessions.
• Use formative and summative assessment to monitor and accelerate learner progress.
• Develop learners' mathematical knowledge, skills and confidence for progression.
• Maintain accurate records of attendance, progress, targets, achievement and destinations.
• Provide effective support and guidance to learners, including through the Personal Tutor role.
• Develop and maintain high‑quality learning resources (VLE/online platforms).
• Contribute to curriculum development and quality improvement activities.
• Work collaboratively with colleagues to achieve positive learner outcomes.
• Participate in standardisation, internal verification and QA activities as appropriate.
• Keep subject knowledge and teaching practice up to date through CPD.
• Contribute to learner recruitment, interviews, marketing and promotions.
• Maintain a positive culture of safeguarding, equality, diversity, inclusion and respect across the College.
