Job summary

PeoplePlus is seeking a dedicated Functional Skills Tutor to deliver City & Guilds Functional Skills Maths from Entry 1 to Level 2 in a prison education setting. You will plan lessons, assess learners, and support progression to employment, working with prison staff and employability teams to ensure successful outcomes.

The role emphasizes inclusive teaching, safeguarding, equality and inclusion, with opportunities to develop ILPs and use BKSB diagnostics to tailor learning.

Qualifications

• Level 3 Maths qualification is essential.
• Teaching qualification Level 5 or equivalent or willingness to work towards one.
• Experience delivering Functional Skills Maths qualifications.
• Ability to adapt teaching to diverse learner needs.
• Excellent communication and organisational skills.
• Commitment to safeguarding, equality, inclusion and learner success.

Responsibilities

• Deliver Functional Skills Maths qualifications from Entry 1 to Level 2 in a prison education setting.
• Conduct initial assessments and use BKSB diagnostics to identify learner starting points.
• Develop and maintain Individual Learning Plans (ILPs).
• Create engaging and inclusive lesson plans to support progression and achievement.
• Motivate and inspire learners to reach their potential.
• Support learners with additional learning needs and make reasonable adjustments.
• Monitor progress and prepare learners for examinations and assessments.
• Promote literacy, numeracy and reading for pleasure within the prison environment.
• Collaborate with prison staff, support practitioners and employability teams to support positive learner outcomes.
