Job summary

Croydon Council is seeking a Repairs Inspector to assess, diagnose and specify repairs for residents’ homes and sites. The role involves pre- and post-inspections, monitoring contractor work, and ensuring quality and safety standards are met.

Applicant must have practical knowledge of repairs, building maintenance and good customer service. A valid driving licence and access to a vehicle are required; the role is based in Croydon with permanent, full-time hours.

Salary range: Grade 8 £41,511-£43,449p.a. plus fantastic benefits

Hours of work: 36 hours per week

Location: Croydon

Repairs Inspector

Help us make sure repairs are correctly diagnosed, completed to the right standard and resolved effectively for residents.

The role

You’ll inspect residents’ homes and other sites, identify repair and maintenance issues, specify the work required and undertake pre- and post-inspections.

You’ll

• inspect properties and sites in relation to responsive repairs and maintenance issues
• diagnose straightforward building defects and identify appropriate remedial works
• prepare clear repair specifications, schedules or instructions
• carry out pre-inspections where further assessment is needed
• undertake post-inspections and quality checks on completed works
• identify defective, incomplete or poor-quality work and raise recalls or further works where needed
• monitor the quality of repairs delivered by contractors and support contractor performance monitoring
• keep residents informed and explain technical repair issues clearly

You’ll Need

What we’re looking for

• good practical knowledge of responsive repairs and building maintenance
• knowledge of common building defects and appropriate repair solutions
• experience of inspecting repairs or property maintenance issues and identifying appropriate works
• experience of monitoring or checking the quality of completed works
• experience of working with contractors or trades to resolve repair or maintenance issues
• experience of dealing directly with customers or residents and taking issues through to resolution
• strong customer service and communication skills, including dealing professionally with residents
• the ability to organise and prioritise a varied workload and take ownership of issues through to resolution
• confidence using IT systems to record inspections, manage repair cases and produce information
• the ability to challenge contractors constructively where work does not meet the required standard.

A relevant technical qualification in building construction, building surveying, property maintenance or a related discipline, or equivalent relevant experience, is desirable.

The role is resident-facing and requires regular visits to residents’ homes and other sites. You must hold a valid driving licence and have access to a vehicle for work purposes.
