Job summary

Essex Partnership University NHS Foundation Trust's Basildon Mental Health Unit is seeking a psychologist to join the Adult Inpatient Psychological Services Team. The post focuses on specialist assessment, formulation, therapy and supervision of junior staff for people in acute mental health crises.

Newly qualified psychologists are welcome under a development post, with flexible hours including part‑time, job-share and compressed hours.

Qualifications

• Postgraduate doctoral‑level training in clinical or counselling psychology accredited by the BPS, or equivalent.
• Training in supervision of other psychologists or psychological therapists.
• HCPC registration and eligibility for BPS accreditation.

Responsibilities

• Provide specialist psychological assessment, formulation, therapy and interventions during acute crises.
• Formulate risk and contribute to clinical decision‑making with ward teams.
• Supervise junior staff and support their development.
• Teach, train and support reflective practice groups and post‑incident debriefs.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary colleagues to develop psychologically informed understandings of crisis presentations.
• Represent psychology in clinical, operational and strategic forums.
